Skinned Underpinnings by Heron Djenne Canvasback

Updated: Feb 15, 2021

Barbara's dad might be having an affair, and her fears are worsening her clinical depression into suicidal thoughts. She's losing faith in herself, and mourns the living world. As she turns away from her religion, while consoling herself otherwise, will she turns into something else? Freddy is trying to find a part of him that he lost too.

Her best friend, Abby, has a new stepmother, who brings along her son: Freddy; Abby doesn't like him, but Barbara sure does. Abby weight-gaining health condition is also deteriorating her mental health; there's a bit more to that story, but even Barbara doesn't know. Speaking of health, Freddy and his mother are kind of weird. Their background story isn't abnormal enough to explain their odd habits and fringe beliefs. Their town is no stranger to countercultures either. Why did they move? Was it a marriage of convenience, is it a con, or is it really love?
