Dead Woods by Heron Djenne Canvasback

Updated: Feb 15, 2021

Seventeen-year-old artist and activist, Demeter, and toddler, Mary-Anne, the daughters of two firefighters, were orphaned in a Californian wild fire. Their guardianship was transferred to their luxurious but devious Aunt Mallory.

This all works for Mallory, since she needs Demeter for a debt she tried to con her way out of paying. Fairies are not forgiving, but they might be loving. As opportunist, Mallory, takes advantage of her nieces misfortunes for her benefit, the cost might be more than she bargained for.

As Demeter and Peter's strange engagement progresses, will Demeter's challenges to the politics of the Fairies' world lead to improvement or banishment? Will Demeter seek revenge for the arson that stole her parents from her? With Demeter away, will Mallory prove to be a decent guardian to Mary-Anne? What is Peter being so accommodating to this broken dysfunctional mortal family?
