Life after high school graduation kind of sucks. Adulting has its ups and downs. Adulthood has its pros and cons. But for Gloria, everything fell apart on her graduation day: her family, her relationship, and she also lost her sense of security.
To regain some stability, and hope, she escapes to one of her backup colleges. She is moving away with her dad, so she's not being too irresponsible. They replace their past griefs with new people and new places.
Her apprenticeship, her university enrollment, and his new job at first seem to help settle them down. However, as they start over, they come to realize that avoidance only gets you so far into the future, before rehashing and repeating the past. This loss of innocence modern fairytale pays tribute to beloved childhood stories, with post-Tolkien elves instead of fairies.
